About the Whisler in the Wildlands

Whisler Wildlands is created and operated by Alex Whisler. Alex grew up exploring the outdoors and appreciating nature. He learned the basic principles of conservation with a family of hunters and harvesters. Alex is an Army veteran. During his military career as a reconnaissance specialist, he developed a unique sense of the human and natural environment. After his honorable discharge, he earned a Bachelor of Science at Lake Superior State University in Wildlife Management and minored in Creative Writing. After college Alex specialized in invasive species with Three Shores CISMA (Cooperative Invasive Species Management Area) as a crew lead working with over 40 partners of private, state, and federal, entities. During that time he also worked on Mackinac Bluffs Maple Farm where he helped sustainably manage crops and produced USDA Organic-certified Maple sugar. These experiences provided him with valuable perspectives on the natural world. Alex is an avid woodsman, hunter, and conservationist. Now, Alex is pursuing graduate school in Environmental Management at the University of Maryland Global Campus. Recently, Whisler Wildlands was honored to partner with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources to compile images and ideas for Michigan’s newest birding trail, the Shore to Shore Birding Trail! Whisler Wildlands LLC was created to honor nature and wildlife, in hopes of spreading awareness about the importance and conservation of Earth's finite Natural Resources.
